Symptoms Of Liver Problems:

Liver is the largest organ in our body and it's an indication of importance to health. There are many diseases that affect the liver and also these diseases may result to death.

What are the symptoms of liver problems?
Symptoms of liver disease are variable and subtle in the early stages of the problem and the symptoms are poor appetite, which is the most common symptom, weight loss is due to poor appetite that occurs in liver disease and improper metabolism of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins complicates the situation also. The
next symptom is Polyuria or polydypsia that is excess urinating and excess drinking of water that can occur in liver disease.
Lethargy is lead due to poor appetite and disruption in normal physiologic processes and also anemia adds to this lethargy, along with ascites due to the discomfort it causes. The other symptom is bleeding disorders in which the normal clotting system is impaired since it depends on a healthy liver.
Some symptoms like vomiting, nausea, or diarrhea occurs as sometimes blood is present in the vomitus, especially if a gastric ulcer is present and the ulcer comes from a complex interaction of histamine, nitrogen, bile acids, Gastrin, portal hypertension, and an altered mucous membrane lining the inside of the stomach.
There may be pain due to distention of diseased liver and also behavioral changes like circling, head tilt, heap pressing, and seizures, particularly right after a meal. The other symptom is jaundice that has symptoms like yellow skin, yellow eyes and dark urine.
If the biliary tree is prevented from secreting normal bile pigments into the intestine the stool will lack pigmentation and appear lighter in color then this symptom is known as light colored stool.
The Distended abdomen due to ascites or hepatomegaly is another symptom where if the distention is severe enough, then breathing might be labored from pain or the pressure on the diaphragm. Other common symptoms are cholestasis, portal hypertension, liver failure, liver encephalopathy, liver enlargement, malaise and also itching.
When is liver disease discovered?
In short liver disease is often discovered during routine testing and it may not cause any symptoms at first or the symptoms may be vague, like weakness and loss of energy but in acute liver disease, symptoms related to problems handling bilirubin, including jaundice, dark urine, and light stools, along with loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are the most common. While chronic liver disease symptoms include jaundice, dark urine, abdominal swelling, itching, unexplained weight loss or gain, and abdominal pain; however they may not be present until the disease has reached an advanced stage.
